Weekly capture

This weeks capture is from the rocky shores of Northern California during the perfect sunset with the other half. I had a little too much fun dancing in the reflection.

Recent steals & jewels

I've been having the toughest time finding clothes lately. I recently took a trip to California and I was going crazy finding items to wear or buy to bring. I ended up going out two days before and picking up some plain baggy tops, and a few sheer ones from rue 21 for $3 bucks each.
Here's one of them. While they're fine, I really don't have much for the upcoming summer.
While I was there I didn't so much shopping, more hiking and adventuring. I stopped at zara and got a few plain tops (again, more plain!) but that was it. I decided to try urban outfitters last night and picked up some good deals from them so hopefully this is a start. Any ideas for reasonable summer shopping?

Throwback Thursday #TBT

It's #throwbackthursday, here are some throwbacks from my instagram

Stack of Alex & Ani, did you know you can get them on sale? TJMAXX has them a lot for $16-18, and sites like Gilt (I haven't seen them on there in awhile, but I got them last year in bundles of 5 for $100), and ideeli in bundles of 3-7 for 30-50% off.

My stab at calligraphy & typography...

I recently took up calligraphy- as in about 2 weeks ago. I've always liked it, but never tried it. It is very relaxing and a nice way to de-stress. Here's a few things I worked on.

I did this one right before I almost bit the bullet at my 90 minute spin class as some motivation..I hope to practice and perfect this one to make a print for the other half.

This amazingly detailed peplum top by Bisou Bisou NWT! Size small with vegan leather (I love that faux leather has a prettier name now, heh), semi sheer lace detail and buttons up the back. I was too busty for it, and waited too long to return. Up for grabs for half price!

Shopping lately...

I  recently went on an insomnia driven shopping binge at jcrew factory, poshmark, and dillards. I didn't 'need' anything really, but when I can't sleep, I wander.. and ended up at the above. I can't complain at the prices either... here's a peek at what I got

OOTD

Under $50 for everything, my favorite kind of outfit.

Weekly capture

This week's capture is an outfit of the day/jewelry of the day shot. Oxford by Joe Fresh on clearance from JCP for $3.49, sequined top by Loft snagged at the Peter Harris warehouse sale for $3. Dogeared necklaces were a gift from someone special. I had to DIY the length of one of them to create the vision he had for them since they were both 18 inches by inserting a jump ring from a bracelet and taking in an inch from the chain. Worked out perfect.

Poshmark...the perfect place for passing on your previously loved pieces

I started selling on posh mark almost a year ago, and it's honestly been amazing.  I've always done eBay, I started when I was in 11th grade on my dad's account and have been selling for over 10 years, but for lesser known brands and trendy pieces, posh mark is the place to sell your stuff.
I've sold everything from a Gucci Tom ford barrel bag that didn't look right on my short frame, to a target pair of flats that were too narrow. I've also scored tory burch flip flops, a lululemon running vest, and gorgeous BCBG gown I wore to a gala for a fraction of the price, and re-poshed it a few weeks later. Posh literally helps pay my rent, let's my style have a constant circulation, and keeps my tiny closet from overflowing.
To start selling on posh, you just need stuff you no longer wear (those jbrands that were on sale that never quite fit, the statement necklace that swallows you). There are certain things that you can't posh, refer to posh guidelines for these items. Then, you must master the cover shot.
Your covershot is the first thing people see. It is what sells your item. Give the buyer ideas on how to style your piece. At the same time, make sure your buyers know what the item is that you are selling. There is nothing more frustrating that clicking a listing with an amazing rebecca minkoff crossbody, come to find out they are selling the tank that's under a blazer that's covered by the bag. I usually use a photo app to focus in on my piece, or use flares to highlight the item I am selling.
Make sure your photos are well lit, clear, and in a clean space. I have some issues with always having a clean space living in a tiny loft and just being generally a mess.. I also utilize editing apps to mask this and blue my surroundings when I have to.
Make sure you answer questions promptly. Trust me, half won't answer you back after you take the time to provide measurements, extra pics, etc, but such is life. It's a frustrating part of posh, but some people just won't respond after you counter offer or provide more info.

Keep all dustbags, care cards, authenticity, packing matierals, tags, boxes, wraps, & more. It makes it easier to sell the item later, vouch for authenticity, and helps answer questions on color, style number and specifics, and it's free packaging for other items!

Some more dos and donts:
Don't harass potential buyers. If someone shares or likes your post, don't ask them if they are interested. If they are, they will inquire.
Do share to posh parties! I try to line up items in my closet at the top of my closet the night before (especially on work days) so I can easily share them when I have a second. There's a kate spade, zara and jcrew party tomorrow, so I've already set my closet so those brands are at the top and ready to share for exposure.
Don't ask 'what's your lowest?' Or low ball. It's insulting. Sellers set a price (see the next do) and asking what the lowest they will take or low balling isn't the most polite thing to do. You wouldn't go to Bloomies and ask what the lowest price is, right? But there's no shame in asking what their current sales are or if they are offering any discounts. Typically, sellers offer 'bundle' discounts for the more items you buy (Mine is 20%). Dont make an offer more than 20%-30% the sellers asking price.
Do research your items! You don't want to list an item too high or too low. I know, you paid $168 for that juicy hoodie a few years ago, but not many people are demanding them at the moment and they aren't going to pay anywhere close to that..search sold and current listings of similar items to set a fair price. That being said, you don't want to short change yourself either and sell your barely worn zara jacket for $50 less than you can get.
Don't wait too long to send your orders. The buyer pays right away and is excited to get it! Pack it with love and care and send promptly. I sometimes stick in an item that's similar to the one they bought for an extra surpise as long as the package isn't overweight. It's great to hear the seller is thrilled with the freebie and will more likely come back or share.
Do visit my closet and let me know so I can follow you back! Use this code HSJJW to get posh credit towards your next purchase and if you happen to find something you can't live without, mention this post for an additional discount.
Happy poshing!

Weekly capture

My capture this week. We had a random downpour at sunset, in the middle of February. I live in upstate New York, so rain is rare this time of year, especially considering we got 2 feet of snow last week. It left the sky lit with fire on one side, and a double rainbow (cue youtube video) on the other. I wish I wasn't in the middle of my evening commute so I could have done a better job. But this will do.

New space, new place

In the early fall/late summer, I moved into an apartment. Oddly enough, I took the place of a friend who had a similar shift in life, with my sister, who also had the same shift. It was the first time in years I didn't have to consider someone else's opinion when decorating (I guess my sister's, but she didn't seem to mind).

I shop. I DIY. I capture. I run. I style. I love. I live.

 I shop. I DIY. I capture. I run. I style. I love. I live.
This is my second attempt at a blog. After some major life changes, I am back to give it another shot. I wanted a place to share my amazingly affordable finds, how I make things my own, images I see, touch on some fitness and foodie things, creating looks from target clearance and thrift finds, and lifestyle of a short girl, living in a too expensive world. I'm a thrifty wanna be fashionista that rarely pays retail (both by choice and not so much). By day, I'm a behavior analyst, by night I'm all of the above.
